How the diminutive and reclusive creature known as Sorrek of Nath came to be one of the most powerful warlords in the Outer Rim is a mystery which may never be answered. From his impressive Kandosii-class star dreadnaught, the Citadel, Sorrek influences entire sectors of space, either through direct use of military force, taking tithe from lesser governors or rulers, or by the manipulation of any number of the various underworld networks he controls.
Nor is it well understood what, or where, the proverbial “Nath” is which Sorrek takes his name. No known sector, planet nor major city bears such a name, and so the meaning of this word remains unknown even to his own underlings. Some have hypothesised that Nath is a kind of cult or group of which he is a member.
Sorrek’s reach is extensive, and encompasses regions as cosmopolitan and industrialised as Veloma, and as remote as the fortress of Kron’s Lock, which is controlled by one of the few legitimate thorns in Sorrek’s side, the crime lord Uro Gruul. How it is that a threat to Sorrek as obvious as Gruul has gone unchecked, given that the Snivvian’s base is static and well known to Sorrek, is yet another of the mysteries surrounding this strange individual.
While Sorrek has claimed a recent victory against Gruul—in the shape of thwarting Gruul’s plans for Veloma and trapping and subsequently crushing his small fleet—the Snivvian has nevertheless escaped his clutches. Many have begun to openly query why it is that Sorrek has not blockaded and sieged Gruul’s headquarters at Grutoka, especially now that Gruul’s fleet has been crushed and Sorrek has an unquestionable military advantage.
