Purity of Mind
The Black Ember Covenant (BEC) are less a crime syndicate and more akin to a manic, semi-religious cult who disdain artificial intelligence, cybernetics, robotics, and narcotics. Their entire ideology revolves around resisting the encroachment of any challenge to biological sapience in the galaxy.
First and foremost, the BEC preach “purity of mind”. They believe that machine intelligence and synthetic biology are abominations to be destroyed, an affront to the natural order and the true spirit of living souls. They train zealots and witch-hunters, and are rumoured to fund purification operations against cybernetic labs and drug rings. While other factions may be more casually brutal, none compare to the BEC in terms of sheer righteous anger.
A carefully guarded base called Crucible Citadel is their major power base, though their agents work across the Outer Rim. The Citadel is a sprawling obsidian fortress-temple atop a flame-choked mountain on their shrine world of Excordia Prime. A high-security space station called the Atlas Gate guards their throne world. They are led publicly by six different papal figures, known as the Council of Purity, but rumour has it that some kind of shadow-pope rules over them.
Relations. The BEC utterly despise Jade Moon, Nightfall, and the Sunfire Remnant for their ties to narcotics and synthetic technologies. The Covenant and Jade Moon are in open war, frequently clashing within the Shattered Zone, amongst other places. They have also placed multiple bounties on various members of the Cold Debt Crew—several of whom have undergone cybernetic enhancement or had limbs replaced due to injury.
