Carida

TERRESTRIAL RAVAGED WORLD | CORE WORLDS

Features

Subterfuge. Carida’s astrogation data is often tinkered with by the Imperial Security Bureau in order to discourage unnecessary traffic to the system.

Hyperlane. Like many major planets in the Core Worlds, Carida’s system links with a major hyperlane, facilitating trade to the planet.

Monitored. Thanks to its importance to the Imperial Army, all traffic to and from the planet is carefully monitored.

Perilous. Famed the galaxy over for its military training facilities, Carida’s security is maintained with a diligence and degree of control not seen in many other locations in the galaxy. Some of the Galactic Empire’s most cutting-edge technology is deployed on this planet before it reaches the front lines of actual battle. Necessarily, the military governor takes considerable pains to protect such information from falling into enemy hands.

Imperial Controlled. The vast majority of officers and recruits which make up the mainstay of the Imperial Legions make their way to Carida at some point in their career. Almost all current Imperial Stormtroopers received their training at the facilities on the planet.

History

Though for most of its history, Carida was a comfortably wealthy civil world of considerable prestige, represented by a number of Senators in the Galactic Senate, during the Clone Wars, it suffered at the hands of a number of the early conflict’s most vicious battles. As the Jedi fought amongst themselves and gradually pulled much of the Old Republic’s military into the fray, Cardia seemed time and time again to be a central point of conflict. Over the course of the war, vast swathes of the planet were either reduced to rubble or terribly damaged and deformed by these constant upheavals.

By the end of the Clone Wars, the once beautiful terrestrial landscape had been largely reshaped. Being such a hotspot for combat, the native populace of Carida had become highly militarised, and an unusual degree of highly talented soldiers and officers hailed from the planet. Because of these cultural and physical shifts, at the dawn of the New Order, Emperor Palpatine saw an opportunity to shift Carida’s focus toward what it had appeared to do best: create effective military personnel. Hence, extensive facilities were constructed on Carida to train future cadets and the burgeoning officer class. The scarred landscape offered real-life examples of what soldiers might be expected to face in battle, and so efforts to repair or rejuvenate the planet were stalled, and the damage remained. Over time, it even began to be further mutilated in order to replicate conditions on less hospitable worlds.

Phenomena

A standard “day” on Corellia lasts thirty standard hours, and the length of its “central” solar year is four hundred and eighty nine local days. Carida is located in a binary solar system, and its two suns do not orbit in close proximity, which means that much of the time there are uneven or disproportionate day-night cycles on the planet. It is possible for both hemispheres to be in sunlight at the same time, with the equatorial terminator being a darker dusk. Imperial training officers have found this to be a useful phenomena, pushing their cadets to endure extended periods of light, without adequate rest or sleep.

Native flora and fauna on the planet remains varied despite the damage done by various battles during the Clone Wars and extensive ecological damage inflicted since (with the express purpose of ravaging particular areas of the surface). Many species have begun to adapt to the conditions, and in particular scavengers have become increasingly prevalent, often snatching the bodies of seriously wounded soldiers from battle before they can receive treatment. Some in the officer corps believe this only adds further incentive for their troops to take proper precautions in battle scenarios.
