TERRESTRIAL INDUSTRIAL WORLD | CORE WORLDS
Features
Corellian Run. The eponymous trade route and largest hyperlane in the galaxy extends from the planet whose name it takes all the way through the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. Extraordinary wealth is funnelled back into the central Imperial planets—to Corellia in particular—thanks to this significant and famous trade route.
Hyperlane. Corellia rests on an intersection of a number of hyperlanes, making it one of the easiest planets in the galaxy to chart astrogation jumps for. Its data is constantly updated, usually within moments, and so navigators have very little trouble locating its exact position.
Smuggling Run. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the notoriety of Corellian pilots themselves, Corellia is an abundant source of materials, much of which is sundry to official manifests. Smuggling is rampant on Corellia, particularly of the outgoing kind.
Shipbuilding. One of the foremost shipbuilding facilities in the galaxy, Corellia’s industrial complex has begun to pay close attention to its effect on the ecosystem. Large parts of the Corellian Engineering Corporation’s most polluting activities have been shifted off-world, in order to satiate the growing aristocracy which has come to expect better living conditions in the wealthier parts of Corellia. Duros in particular has suffered as a result of these economic and social shifts.
Throne World. Corellia is the homeworld and seat of the corporation which takes its name: the Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC). This very old corporate entity has come to dominate galactic engineering, particularly in regard to starship and commercial travel technology. It is notorious for its aggressive acquisition of competitors who threaten its monopoly over commercial starship manufacturing.
Imperial Controlled. While Corellia was quick to abandon the Old Republic early during the Clone Wars, recalling its Senators and various diplomats, most historians recognise that the planet was never likely to actually abandon the bureaucracy. Such decisions were made for economic reasons, and to avoid Corellia itself being drawn into factional warfare. Since the rise of the New Order, Corellia has been a distinctly loyal and highly profitable part of the regime.
Locations
Corellian Engineering Headquarters. In the centre of the densely populated corporate centres on Corellia, the headquarters of the Corellian Engineering Corporation tower over anything else in its vicinity. These offices dominate the world, economically and culturally as much as the towers themselves do physically. One of the oldest and most famous corporations in the Core Worlds, CEC are among the biggest ship-building firms in the galaxy, though their industry is officially restricted to commercial and private engineering.
History
The Battle of Corellia. When Corellia was drawn into the Clone Wars against its will toward the end of the galaxy-wide conflict, it hosted a fierce battle between the remaining forces of the Old Republic, as the renewed and reunited Jedi factions surged toward Coruscant. The battle took place largely in the most industrialised parts of the planet, which the Jedi sought to control in order to limit the Republic’s starship manufacturing capability. However, the damage it dealt to Corellia’s economy scarred the populace with a particularly caustic view of the Jedi, whom they have since held in disdain.
Phenomena
A standard day on Corellia lasts twenty six standard hours, and the length of its solar year is three hundred and ninety two local days.
Native flora has been limited by the extent of both urban and industrial sprawl on the planet. What little is left has been reduced to protected environmental zones which have become popular tourist attractions. Similarly, fauna has all but disappeared except for a variety of bird and insect life. In some parts of Corellia’s industrial zones, introduced species such as mynocks are a constant plague.
